Land Development Experience
HR Green was hired to determine if it would be feasible to construct a freestanding Trader Joe’s retail building and parking lot over one of the stormwater detention basins.
Bridgeland Residential Development
HR Green provided engineering design for residential subdivisions within the master planned community of Bridgeland.
Marian Central High School Field of Dreams
Marian Central Catholic High School’s sports complex consists of a competitive football field/track and field facility, baseball fields, a softball field, and tennis courts, as well as accessory buildings to complement these activities.
Marquette Scenic Overlook and Boardwalk
HR Green provided design and construction engineering services for the renovation of the Marquette-Joliet Bridge scenic overlook, including a new stairway connection to the Cobblestone Inn/City Hall pedestrian bridge, and a new boardwalk extending into the Mississippi River.
O’Dell Mixed Use Development
HR Green performed the planning, entitlements and writing of the PUD for this 430-acre premier master planned development that balances natural and man-made elements to create an environmentally sensitive community.
Walgreens Site Design
HR Green was selected to provide surveying, engineering and landscape architecture services for this site located in the heart of Northbrook amidst other moderate sized commercial parcels and existing homes.
HR Green coordinated with the Village as well as the current landscape maintenance contractor for the development in order to create a design that met the ordinance and fit into the existing context of the overall shopping center.
Lowe’s Home Improvement

Erin Hills Park is the third park that the Village has developed as part of its commitment to improve the parks and recreation experiences within the Village limits and was partially funded by an Illinois OSLAD Grant.
University of Minnesota Ruttan Plaza
St. Paul, MN
HR Green provided leak investigation services and a structural analysis of the underutilized plaza and determined that the structure was no longer adequately designed to support the existing loads. As a result, the University seized the opportunity to repair the failing structure and elected to incorporate an upgraded green roof design into the necessary structure improvements to establish a more pedestrian-friendly space.
AAA Auto Club Group

The community was conceived as an alternative to Galveston destinations, providing a more affordable, upscale housing product with large front porches, detached garages, and quaint front yards.
Iowa River Landing
The Iowa River Landing was a re-development project that converted a 180 acre industrial area into a mixed-use district comprised of a hotel, conference center, 300,000+ square feet of retail, office, residential and entertainment space, a medical clinic and parking.
The development is approximately 200 acres in size with approximately 70% commercial and 30% residential, with the residential components comprised of both single and multi-family homes.
McHenry County College Building and Parking Expansion
Crystal Lake, IL
Site planning services for the construction of a new 650 stall parking lot along with 40,000 square foot building addition.
HR Green’s multidisciplinary team has offered a full array of surveying, engineering, and landscape architectural design services ranging from conceptual design through final construction documents.
Huntley Fire Station #4
The project included construction of a 7,150 square foot satellite fire station LEED Certified along with a parking lot and drive-thru building access for fire trucks.
The community features a range of housing options including 277 single family homes, 552 townhomes, and 720 condominium homes.
The Trails at Regal Park
Lubbock Land Company retained HR Green to design a New Urbanist residential community in Lubbock, Texas. The project consists of over 250 lots and was designed to promote social interaction and walkability.
Will County Adult Detention Facility
Civil/site engineering and surveying services for the design and construction of a 600 bed addition to the existing Will County Adult Detention Facility.
Glasford Residential Development
HR Green designed Glasford as a unique neighborhood, intermixing single family detached homes with attached product such as duplex, townhomes, and apartments. The Glasford site consists of 140 acres with over 800 residential units at completion.
Del Webb’s Sun City
Del Webb is the premiere active adult community developer in the United States, building master planned, highly amenitized communities for residents of retirement age.
The Village of Antioch was subsequently awarded a $283,250 grant through these efforts which helped to fund the development of a 41.9 acre neighborhood park site which was abandoned by a developer during an economic recession.
Winding Creek Conservation Area
Hebron Township, IL
HR Green was retained by the McHenry County Conservation District to provide site design and construction documents for improvements at this 358 acre parcel, located along Nippersink Creek in Hebron Township, Illinois. The District acquired this property due to its high quality native oak savannahs and extensive hydrologic features.
Rock Run Rookery
HR Green was part of a design team that provided civil engineering and topographic services for a 217 acre recreation area. These services included the agency review and coordination with Will County, City of Joliet and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Antioch Downtown Beautification
HR Green worked with the Village of Antioch’s Planning and Zoning Department to design and construct numerous landscape and hardscape improvements within the downtown TIF District.
Minneapolis Community Technical College (MCTC)
The HR Green team produced a Mobility Study/ Technical Memorandum as part of the MCTC Climate Action Plan (CAP). MCTC has committed to reducing its emissions generated by commuting students, staff and faculty. The recommendations and strategy described in the Mobility Study is helping establish a more environmentally friendly campus while improving the quality of life.
Niles Community Rain Garden
The Village of Niles, Illinois and the Coca-Cola Corporation sought to transform a neglected parcel of public property, to create an appealing park site that would serve to educate public officials and area residents by demonstrating the theory of using rain gardens to retain and cleanse storm water runoff.
Como Housing Parking
The University of Minnesota (UMN) retained HR Green to reconstruct two of the parking lots at their Como Student Housing site. Poor site drainage affected the existing site, due to adjacent development and an insufficient stormwater sewer system.
HR Green developed a visionary riverwalk plan to revitalize the City of McHenry’s waterfront and aided the City in obtaining funding by implementing a TIF district.
Nevada SCORE Recreation Complex
The Nevada SCORE Recreational Complex is a regional park in Story County, Iowa. The City of Nevada, Iowa retained HR Green to guide them through the design and completion of a tournament level softball complex

Buddy Baseball is a unique project designed for children with disabilities. It is located within the overall Sunset Park complex in the Village of Lake in the Hills and serves the broader communities in McHenry and Kane counties.

In the world of commercial development the name of the game is to accelerate the return on investment. However, in today’s highly competitive environment there is more to development than just getting plans approved, bids let and construction started. Branding is now a major consideration for businesses, creating a welcoming experience for customers with solutions that are functional and achieving these goals within a limited area while adhering to local ordinances is always a challenge.
A resilient community is one that can weather the economic trade winds. Leaders build a resilient community by having the ability to anticipate risk, and bounce back rapidly from setbacks through adaptability, evolution, and growth in the face of turbulent change.
As the nation continues to move steadily forward in recovering from the economic downturn many community leaders are asking themselves “what can we learn from the past 10 years?” The short answer is: Resilience.
With an increased emphasis in the US on multi-modal transportation and awareness of public health, there is more funding available for projects that include sidewalks or multi-use trails. Not surprisingly, HR Green has designed a number of projects requiring pedestrian bridges to carry sidewalks and trails over roadways and creeks. As we gain experience with these types of projects, we have learned valuable lessons and identified common misconceptions regarding pedestrian bridges.
