The HR Green Project of the Year Awards were created to honor teams internally for projects that exemplify HR Green’s mission to build communities and improve lives while showcasing innovation, collaboration, client service, and financial excellence.
Each HR Green business line can submit one project per region and is evaluated by an internal selection committee. A winning project is selected for each business line which includes Construction, Land Development, Governmental Services, Transportation, and Water. From the winning business line selections, one project is honored as the Ultimate HR Green Project of the Year. During the month of July, we’ll share each winning project team and the project details, revealing this year’s winner at the end of the month.

Transportation
Congratulations to the Route 94, Route 364, Muegge Road Interchange project team for receiving both the honor of HR Green’s 2023 Transportation Project of the Year and the HR Green 2023 Ultimate Project of the Year!
The project was a joint effort between MoDOT, St. Charles County, and the City of Saint Charles, with each entity providing funding for added capacity, safety, and mobility enhancements.
MoDOT was the project sponsor and implemented an innovative development strategy around the HR Green Design Team, making them the Project Management Consultant (PMC) for the project. This means HR Green served as the internal Project Manager just as a MoDOT PM sitting at the District office would, interfacing with the Central office, and other District staff, hosting Core Team meetings and performing other administrative duties on behalf of the District to complete the design.
Top-notch work by the project team including Geoff Roberts, Dan Shane, Andi Davis, Josh Unland, Eric Chamberlain, and Jason Dohrmann. The resulting interchange provides direct access for all movements, improves the safety of the traveling public, and reduces adverse travel for motorists traveling to and from Muegge Road without degrading the existing MoDOT or adjacent transportation system.
Water
Congratulations to the Houston Water Services project team for receiving the honor of HR Green’s 2023 Water Project of the Year!
The City of Houston, Texas was under an EPA Consent Decree (CD) to mitigate sanitary sewer overflows by 2036. HR Green was awarded a work order contract which included a wide range of work orders tied to addressing some of the CD mandates.
One of the work orders on this project was the evaluation and implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in the coding of defects in sewer lines and manholes. The use of AI technology is very new in the industry, and our involvement as early adopters/users sets this project apart. The City of Houston is in its fourth year of using the service. Other work orders provided staff augmentation and design services.

Land Development
Congratulations to the Chick-fil-A Land Development project team on being named HR Green’s 2023 Land Development Project of the Year!
HR Green’s team leads Chick-fil-A restaurant site development, coordinating with the architect, utility providers, landlords, and municipal officials to get stores up and running – usually within an aggressive schedule.
Since 2009, our land development team has completed approximately 150 Chick-fil-A stores, ranging from initial due diligence to construction completion and punch-out with locations in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, North & South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas.

Governmental Services
Congratulations to the Holt Avenue Corridor Improvements project team for receiving the honor of HR Green’s 2023 Governmental Services Project of the Year!
The corridor experienced a high incidence of traffic accidents, crime, trash, and other issues. The city’s goal was to transform this corridor to enhance cleanliness, safety, accessibility, and aesthetics.
Our team developed a detailed traffic study and design alternatives and, once funding was secured, implemented the design plan. The corridor improvements included the installation of new medians, trash receptacles, bus shelters, and benches, along with extensive median and parkway landscaping, including green stormwater infrastructure, which significantly beautified the area. Enhancements were also made to Garfield Park and included a new circuit trail for walking and jogging, complete with workout stations.
Fantastic work by the project team, including Trent MacDonald, Art Casillas, Chase Keys, Jorge Perez, Jeanne MacDonald, Monica Pangco, and Lilly Diaz. The project will significantly transform the Holt Avenue Corridor into a vibrant and safe thoroughfare, improving the quality of life for residents and supporting the City of Pomona’s vision.
Construction
Congratulations to the Eldamain Road Extension project team for receiving the honor of HR Green’s 2023 Construction Project of the Year!
The Kendall County Highway Department (KCHD) wanted to extend Eldamain Road south, creating a new crossing over the Fox River. The new and improved transportation corridor alleviates high traffic volumes, including a large number of trucks traveling through downtown Yorkville, which caused congestion and limited access to businesses. The County highway was also constructed with safety in mind by including raised medians separating the north and south lanes of traffic.
The expanded corridor provides another Fox River Bridge crossing making north-south travel in the area much more efficient and spurring new development opportunities in Kendall County.

From the design to construction, HR Green’s construction team partnered with the Kendall County Highway department to deliver a $40 million multi-year project.
