The Village of Niles selected HR Green to assist in the reconstruction and revitalization of a 1.4 mile long Milwaukee Avenue streetscape corridor within its thriving downtown business district. The goal was to upgrade deteriorating infrastructure and implement a streetscape revitalization plan to establish both an appealing and pedestrian-friendly environment.
HR Green led a public relations initiative to disseminate information to stakeholders and residents to facilitate discussion and identify the Milwaukee Avenue streetscape project needs. HR Green developed a feasible, cost-effective program intended to mitigate construction impact on area businesses by implementing state grant incentives for right-of-way improvements. Design elements including landscaping, lighting, pavers, and site furnishings were integrated into the streetscape design to establish a uniform identity. Ultimately, the design team prepared construction documents and provided field administration during the design’s implementation.
