HR Green provided design and construction observation services for the 1.5 million gallon elevated water tower refurbishing project at Menlo Park. The 16-year-old tower was in need of complete surface preparation and recoating of the exterior and interior wet/dry surfaces. The tower is in the central pressure zone and could not be taken out of service without first implementing two separate capital projects to assist with the operation.

HR Green helped the operations team implement one of the projects with the Flow Control Valve Vaults, which regulate the flow from the high-pressure zone to the central pressure zone. The construction process required full containment of the tower during sandblasting and coating to protect the surrounding neighborhood, park, and hospital parking lots. The elevated water tower refurbishing consisted of the exterior coated with a high-performance fluoropolymer coating, and the interior wet was coated with a high solids, high mil build, and epoxy coating to provide a long-lasting coating system.
