HR Green is providing professional engineering design services for the TIRZ 17 Barryknoll Realignment Project, a roadway improvement effort in Houston’s Memorial City area. The project will realign Barryknoll Lane between Gessner Road and Bettina Court and connect to a previously approved section east of Gessner Road, completing an important segment of the corridor.

Barryknoll Lane serves as a key route through a busy area of west Houston, carrying mall traffic, commuters, pedestrians, and local business traffic. The existing roadway configuration presents operational challenges and does not align with planned improvements along the corridor, making realignment an important step toward improving connectivity and traffic flow.

The project is made possible in part by Metro National‘s planned right-of-way donation to the City of Houston, allowing the roadway to connect with the previously approved segment east of Gessner Road. Together, these improvements will enhance corridor functionality while supporting safe and efficient travel for motorists, pedestrians, and nearby businesses.

HR Green’s scope includes drainage analysis, traffic engineering, landscape architecture, geotechnical investigation, surveying, and detailed design. Planned improvements include sidewalk upgrades, driveway replacements, drainage enhancements, potential street lighting improvements, and other corridor elements that support pedestrian access and roadway operations.

Because portions of the new alignment extend into Metro National’s property, the project includes coordination to reconfigure affected parking areas. HR Green will support parking lot layout adjustments, lighting updates, and striping modifications to help maintain access for nearby businesses and mall visitors.

The project is currently in the schematic development phase. HR Green is preparing a concept for review by Metro National before advancing to the City of Houston for approval. Following schematic approval, the project will move into detailed design.

Through this effort, TIRZ 17, the City of Houston, Metro National, and project stakeholders are working to improve safety, connectivity, and functionality along an important transportation corridor in the Memorial City area.
