May 16, 2019

May 15, 2019 – HR Green, Inc. (HR Green) has been honored with an Engineering Achievement Award for a project in Clive, IA Iowa. The American Council of Engineering Companies of Iowa (ACEC Iowa) presented the Engineering Excellence Awards at an event on March 14.

The overall goal of the program is to recognize outstanding engineering achievements in Iowa, and to provide an opportunity for recognition for engineering firms, their employees and their clients. HR Green received the award in Category D: Special Projects for the Clive Pavement Management, Design Standards, and Specifications Study.

About the Clive Project

The City of Clive’s Pavement Management, Design Standards and Specifications Study provides guidance for sustainable pavement infrastructure through the use of improved design standards and proper asset management principles and allows the City to ensure, with sufficient funding, that roadways are designed properly, are adequately maintained and rehabilitated, and reconstructed at a high level of service and safety.

HR Green completed all facets of the project and performed a review of pavement system design practices in Clive. An extensive study was completed that compiled research and recommendations from a variety of sources in regard to proper design and construction of long-lasting PCC pavement, pavement materials, and pavement foundations. In addition, Clive’s standards were compared against others in the Des Moines Metro area, the Statewide Urban Design and Specifications (SUDAS) standards, and the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) recommendations. Recommendations to improve current pavement design to increase projected pavement life from 35 years to 50 years were then provided to the City which compelled the City Council to immediately adopt a revised policy to implement the pavement design standard improvements.
