Golden Acres Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements - Pasadena, TX

Golden Acres consists of a contact-stabilization WWTP operating in parallel with an extended aeration carousel WWTP. HR Green provided preliminary, design, and construction phase engineering for this project. The project included modifications to allow both plants to achieve nitrification. In addition, the total combined treatment capacity was increased from 9.3 MGD ADF to 12.4 MGD ADF.

The design incorporated the addition of two (2) variable speed 200-horsepower aerators in the existing carousel-style aeration basins, dissolved oxygen controls, hydraulic modifications to the aeration effluent weir boxes, hydraulic modification at the headworks, and aeration improvements in one of the two (2) chlorine contact basins.

Additionally, a second belt press was installed along with new sludge feed pumps, a polymer injection system, and related controls. The onsite lift station’s firm capacity was increased to 30 MGD through the addition of a third screw pump. The lift station structure and the existing screw pumps were severely deteriorated and extensive concrete and metal repairs were included in the project to restore the integrity of these components. The odor control facilities were updated with a new bio-trickling filter to replace the existing activated carbon filters. The project also includes extensive electrical modifications and upgrades, building expansions, drainage improvements, paving, and miscellaneous site work.
