HR Green is pleased to announce that Steve Zimmerman has joined the firm’s McHenry office as a Senior Ecologist for the Illinois Water Resources group.
Steve has more than 25 years of experience leading over 300 ecological‑related projects, including prairie, wetland, and woodland restoration; stream restoration; and watershed and green infrastructure planning. He has managed and delivered environmental projects for municipal and private clients, overseeing proposals, budgeting, permitting, QA/QC, and client stewardship. Steve brings deep ecological expertise, including wetland delineations and assessments, tree surveys, shoreline and streambank restorations, construction oversight, and wetland mitigation.
In this role, Steve will apply his 25 years of regional experience to broaden HR Green’s client base and advance environmental initiatives within the Water Resources group in Illinois. Steve’s primary goals are to grow stream restoration and green infrastructure work as he mentors staff.

Steve earned a B.S. in Biology from Culver-Stockton College and a M.S. in Biology from Western Illinois University. He is a Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner, ISA-Certified Arborist, and Certified Wetland Specialist.
