Jeremy Horwitz, EIT – Staff Engineer – Transportation
- What do you enjoy most about working for HR Green?
At HR Green, I’ve enjoyed working on a wide range of projects and with several different project managers. HR Green gives me the opportunity to grow as an engineer by allowing me to grow my technical skills on various projects and interpersonal skills working with different project managers.
- What was a few of your favorite projects?
Two of my favorite projects are quite different in scale, but both were equally challenging and fun to design. On the larger end of the spectrum, I worked on a drainage and erosion control design for the new I-57 interchange at I-294. This project required coordinating between IDOT and Illinois Tollway standards and planning around the complexities of a multi-year, multi-contract project. It was also great just to be a part of a team involved in connecting the second to last Interstate crossing in this country.
Toward the other end of the spectrum I worked on a neighborhood reconstruction and infrastructure project for the Village of Mundelein. While the project only encompassed a handful of residential streets, it had the complexities and challenges of a much larger project. The existing streets on this project had a rural cross section (shoulder and ditches at the edge of pavement). The Village wanted to improve upon these old streets with new curb and gutter. With adding new curb and gutter we needed to add new storm sewer to collect the flow of water. In addition to improving the aging roadways, the scope of the project also included replacing the existing 6” water main with new 8” water main and performing spot replacement of the aging sanitary sewer system.
- What made you decide to join HR Green?
When I interviewed with HR Green, I saw that they were quite unique compared to similar firms in the industry. HR Green focuses on creating a great environment for their employees to grow and chart their own path. This then translates into creating cohesive and successful teams that are able to provide exceptional client service.
I also liked that HR Green has the ability to grow its employees through cross-department collaboration and cross-office work sharing. I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with our structural, water/wastewater, water resources, and land development departments. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with our South Dakota office on an Iowa project.
- What has you excited about the future here at HR Green?
I’m most excited about growing my skills here at HR Green. This will allow me to have an ever increasing positive impact on my community and will help to build upon the success of our company. The incredibly talented and dedicated people I work with have become my work family. I think this environment that HR Green has fostered puts HR Green in a perfect position to deliver exceptional internal and external client service. This will be one of the biggest factors that will continue to drive our success for miles down the road.
