ACEC Missouri Presents HR Green with Engineering Excellence Honor Award for Ladue, Missouri City-wide Stormwater Management Program
HR Green, Inc. (HR Green) was presented with the American Council of Engineering Companies Missouri (ACEC/MO) Honor Award for their work on the city-wide Stormwater Management Program (SMP) for the City of Ladue, Missouri.
HR Green received this award at the recent ACEC/MO’s 2019 Winter Meeting and Awards Banquet on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at the Adam’s Mark Hotel & Conference Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The recognition was part of the ACEC Missouri’s Annual Engineering Excellence Awards Project Competition. The goal of the award is for ACEC/MO to recognize the quality engineering design that member firms produced.
Many neighborhoods in Ladue were originally platted and developed between 1930 and 1960 with little to no stormwater management infrastructure. This resulted in drainage challenges that amplified in recent years as the frequency of intense rainfall events increased. Numerous instances of property damage were reported throughout the community as streets, homes, and vehicles were often inundated by localized flash flooding. Residents voted to approve a stormwater sales tax to fund drainage improvements and called upon the City to address these issues throughout the community. In response, the City launched a comprehensive and programmatic analysis of stormwater management needs throughout Ladue. The goal was to create a stormwater management plan (SMP) identifying and prioritizing capital improvements to alleviate drainage and erosion issues.
The City of Ladue selected HR Green as prime consultant to lead the SMP process. In this role, HR Green reached out to residents to characterize drainage issues in Ladue and begin building public support for possible solutions. Extensive investigation and computer modeling were completed. Improvements for the community will include reductions in surface flooding, erosion, structural damage, and flooding of homes, as well as improved public safety.
