HR Green Prepares Final Design Plans for New Structure along Highway 37 in Beadle County, SD

Hr Green, Inc.

HR Green was previously retained by the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) to conduct hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and provide preliminary bridge design services for replacing existing structure number 03-240-050 along Highway 37, over the James River in Beadle County, South Dakota. The SDDOT agreed with HR Green’s recommendation to replace the existing bridge with a new 4-span, prestressed concrete girder bridge and raise the roadway profile to reduce the risk of future roadway flooding. With the Preliminary Plans finalized, SDDOT has selected HR Green to continue leading professional engineering services for the final design of this replacement structure, including structural engineering and plan preparation. In addition to the design and plan preparation activities, HR Green will be responsible for determining bridge scour, deck drainage, and load ratings, and assisting the SDDOT during construction by responding to Contractor questions and reviewing shop drawings.

“We are very excited that the South Dakota Department of Transportation has selected us to complete the final design for the replacement bridge on SD 37 in Beadle County,” said Project Manager Kevin Brehm. “Over the course of several recent SDDOT structural projects, we have earned the trust and respect of their Office of Bridge Design. We greatly enjoy working together with their staff to find the most effective and economical replacement solutions for their deficient structures. This is a prime example of quality engineering and excellent customer service leading to repeat business, and ultimately fostering a relationship that benefits all parties.”
