United Way Day of Caring Challenge
The HR Green team in Cedar Rapids stepped up to the United Way Day of Caring challenge again this year. The HR Green volunteers and projects were coordinated by Zaid Alsamawi and Destry Schildmeier. We had so many volunteers that two projects were completed! Thankfully, the weather was beautiful and everyone enjoyed spending the day working outside.
Destry lead a team of 8 to rebuild a patio for a Discovery Living support home. The four young men that call this home enjoy grilling outside in the summer and needed a safe patio free of tripping hazards. The team did a marvelous job of reworking the space and creating a safe and beautiful outdoor area!
Zaid lead his team of 12 HR Green volunteers in building a wheelchair ramp for an individual home. This team worked with W.R.A.P. (Wheelchair Ramp Accessibility Program) volunteers to tackle the challenge. The team was able to relocate the stairs and construct a ramp to the existing driveway to allow this older couple to enjoy the outdoors and make getting around a bit easier. Everyone was thrilled with the results!
