Jack Melhuish Graduates from Illinois Road & Transportation Builders Association Emerging Leaders Program
HR Green’s Jack Melhuish recently graduated from the Illinois Road & Transportation Builders Association ( IRTBA) emerging leaders program. The program is designed to educate exceptional individuals about transportation issues and expose them to the “big picture” of the industry, learning everything from global trends to local government.
Participants learn from business leaders and speakers from academic institutions, member companies, and public agencies. In addition, participants network with established leaders and fellow emerging leaders. Together, members will continue to promote, protect, and improve the future of the transportation industry.
The program was beneficial on several levels according to Melhuish.
“We were able to hear from many different leaders in the industry on a number of different topics and then we were able apply our newly learned knowledge in discussions with members of congress. It was truly eye-opening to hear and see what our industry leaders and our congressional leaders think about infrastructure in this country.”
A highlight of the program was the group’s trip to Washington D.C. where they met with members of congress and discussed the need for a long term transportation bill.
In addition the group went to Springfield to lobby legislators on behalf of transportation interests and had the opportunity to meet Governor Bruce Rauner.
HR Green Transportation President, Jason Poppen, encourages participation in these leadership building organizations.
“Developing our leaders and future leaders is vitally important within our organization,” said Poppen. Jack is a knowledgeable and passionate asset and resource for our industry and it was exciting to see his growth through this program.” Poppen said.
