Columbia Missouri Chooses HR Green for Stadium Boulevard Project
On Oct. 7, the City of Columbia’s City Council approved awarding a contract to HR Green for the design of improvements to the intersection of Stadium Boulevard and Old Highway 63. The intersection currently does not have marked crosswalks or pedestrian signals.
The improvements will include new sidewalks, crosswalks and pedestrian safety enhancements to the intersection, as well as the installation of dual turn lanes for turning west from northbound Old 63 and a northbound right turn lane on Stadium Boulevard.
Many cyclists and recreational bike riders currently share the roadway pavement with vehicles and many pedestrians use the nearby Hinkson Creek trail throughout the day. By designing for bikes and pedestrians and adding pedestrian signals, the intersection will promote the safe use of other forms of transportation aside from motor vehicles.
The Program Manager for this project will be Jason Dohrmann, PE. In his 15 years of experience, Jason’s work has primarily involved the project management and execution of various transportation projects in the Midwest. Aside from his project management experience, his expertise includes all aspects of technical design for infrastructure-related projects varying from residential street reconstruction to traffic, construction management and planning on very large projects.
The project is estimated to cost $1.4 million, which the City plans to split 50-50 with the Missouri Department of Transportation.
