HR Green Employee Graduates from IRTBA Leadership Program
Andrew Keyster, P.E., Construction Manager, recently graduated from The Illinois Road and Transportation Builders Association (IRTBA) Emerging Leadership Program.
The program is designed to educate exceptional individuals about transportation issues and expose them to the “big picture” of the industry–learning everything from global trends to local government. Participants learn from business leaders and speakers from academic institutions, member companies, and public agencies. In addition, participants network with established leaders and fellow emerging leaders. Together, members will continue to promote, protect, and improve the future of the transportation industry.
The program was beneficial on several levels according to Keyster.
“The ELP was a great program to be a part of. The IRTBA did a great job having presentations that made you think about the entire industry as a whole rather than just the consultant viewpoint,” he said. “A variety of individuals representing consultants, contractors, material suppliers, local agencies, state and federal agencies presented their differing views on the transportation sector.”
A highlight of the program was the group’s trip to Washington D.C. where they were welcomed by American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) President and CEO Pete Ruane who underscored the importance of industry stakeholders being actively involved in advocacy efforts to educate elected officials and the public about the need for investment in the nation’s infrastructure. ARTBA’s Chief Economist Dr. Alison Premo Black and ARTBA Director of Congressional Relations Dean Franks also briefed the group before their visit to Capitol Hill to meet with members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation the following day.
“It was very interesting to see the political perspective and really discuss some of the funding challenges transportation faces. It was fun and informative to be part of the meetings with members of the House of Representatives to explain the challenges facing the transportation industry,” Keyster said.
HR Green Transportation President, Jason Poppen, encourages participation in these leadership building organizations.
“It is important that HR Green continue to have our leaders and future leaders learning, networking and being recognized within the industry. Andy is a knowledgeable and passionate asset and resource for our industry and it was exciting to see his growth through this program.” Poppen said
