Mt. Pleasant Library Renovation Project
Mt. Pleasant, Iowa

The Mount Pleasant Public Library is the main occupant of the former Senior High School building, now refurbished. The once abandoned building, enclosing 70,000 square feet, was totally gutted and rebuilt to house the new 25,000 square foot public library, the community theatre in a restored auditorium seating 350, new community meeting rooms seating 200, and offices for both the Area Education Agency and the School District. In addition, the existing gymnasium was renovated to serve as a community activity center. The only new portion of the building is an exterior entrance for the public library.

The exterior design of this element reflects the attractive historical elements that give Mt. Pleasant its special character. The building exterior was also restored to its original 1932 appearance.

The City of Mount Pleasant received a 2006 All Star Communities Award from the Iowa League of Cities for their Library Renovation Project.
