Bicycle & Pedestrian Connections to Transit Infrastructure Evaluation
This study, funded by a Non-Motorized Transportation Pilot Program award from Bike/Walk Twin Cities (BWTC) administered by Transit for Livable Communities (TLC), will result in a list of infrastructure improvements that would improve bicycle and pedestrian connections to transit. Communities can then use this list to apply for funding to complete identified improvements through Transit for Livable Communities’ Bike/Walk Twin Cities program or other funding sources if they choose to do so.
Work on this project included:
Conducting community surveys to identify available data and contacts as well as known constraints or barriers to transit use, needed amenities, or potential projects to improve transit use that are already under consideration
Working with a Technical Advisory Group to obtain input on ranking criteria for prioritizing improvements and to select routes for field data collection
Developing a Geographic Information System (GIS) model to identify and rank access to transit and bus stop amenities in order to identify and rank potential projects
Conducting field data collection using ArcPad (for incorporation in GIS model) on three selected bus routes to gather site-specific access and amenity data
Compiling a ranked list of potential projects
Providing cost estimates for potential projects
