Cliff Avenue Corridor Improvements – Sioux Falls, SD
For this 1.2 mile complete streets project, HR Green provided consulting engineering services for the following major infrastructure systems: streets and traffic signals; storm sewers; water distribution systems; sanitary sewers; landscape architecture.

HR Green’s design also included communications fiber, retaining walls, roadway lighting, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility. The project engaged a variety of engineering disciplines, including civil, structural, electrical, and landscape architecture. HR Green also provided construction administration and construction staking services for the project.

The Cliff Avenue Corridor Improvements required application of the most current technologies and techniques, especially in traffic signal design, hydrologic modeling, and landscape architecture. This project won the Grand Prize from the American Council of Engineering Companies – South Dakota.

Richfield 75th/76th Streetscape Improvements – Richfield, MN
The City of Richfield investigated alternatives for streetscape redevelopment as a result of the Metropolitan Council sanitary sewer project along the 75th and 76th street corridors. The sanitary sewer project transects the community from east to west and affects over 52 blocks of the community. Over the course of two years, streetscape redevelopment would coincide with the progression of the sanitary sewer construction.

During the planning phase of the streetscape design, Howard R. Green Company (HR Green) worked with the City, to gather input from the public through a series of open houses and work sessions. Input from the sessions was used to create a recommended concept for the corridor that reflected the needs of the community and provided recreational and alternative transportation opportunities.

The recommended streetscape design replaced the currently underutilized four lane road, with a ‘complete streets’ approach to street design. The complete streets concept emphasizes multimodal transportation such as bus stops, on street bike lanes, widened sidewalks, and pedestrian crosswalks in addition to vehicular lanes. The final design will enhance the 75th and 76th Street corridor as an amenity for the community and region. Final design documents are nearing completion with construction to begin spring of 2009.

Ingersoll Avenue Streetscape Reconstruction – Des Moines, Iowa
HR Green was hired by the City of Des Moines to complete engineering of the roadway, storm sewers and sanitary sewers for the Ingersoll Avenue project. Additionally, HR Green was responsible for coordinating the design efforts of the team and compiling them into one set of construction documents for three phases of construction.

Construction on hardscape improvements was completed late in 2007. Trees, shrubs, and perennials were planted during the Spring of 2008. Improvements consisting of placement of ornamental fencing around the planting beds, decorative urns, bike racks, benches, and litter receptacles were also completed in 2008.
