Mike Daniel has over 20 years of experience with the leadership and management of professional service firms. Early in his career at HR Green, Daniel led the firm’s finance and accounting group. In 2009, he was named CEO of HR Green. Under his leadership, the company has grown significantly through mergers and acquisitions, as well as through organic growth. He champions HR Green’s ongoing effort to adhere to the firm’s Mission & Values. Also in 2009, Daniel assumed the position of Chairman of the Board, where he focuses on the long- term strategies and cultural development of the firm.
Jason J. Poppen  |  Executive Vice President  | 
Jason J. PoppenJason currently serves as Executive Vice President at HR Green. Jason gained diverse management experience at both the state level where he served as Bureau Chief of Administrative Services for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Districts One and Three, and at the local level where he served as the Kendall County Administrator. Jason frequently works as Principal in Charge for clients’ projects, and leads the public involvement/CSS process for numerous regionally significant transportation projects. These have included Prairie Parkway Phase I Engineering Study, Metra STAR Line, Metra BNSF Extension and Elgin-O’Hare Expressway Western Access. Additionally, Jason works with numerous local governments, including counties and municipalities, on capital improvement projects and comprehensive and strategic planning. Jason joined HR Green in the summer of 2002. James F. Hoving  |  PE  |  Executive Vice President  | 
James F. HovingJim currently serves as Executive Vice President at HR Green and leader of HR Green's Project Delivery Group, which comprises more than 200 employees focused on delivery of projects with quality and efficiency. In this role, he gives leadership to all project execution across the company. Jim also remains active in an engineering role, primarily in the management of major transportation projects and serving as the Client Manager for key clients. He has cultivated strong project management, communication and interpersonal skills that enable him to lead and manage his staff on projects to their successful completion. Walter F. Walter Hoeppner Walt joined HR Green as Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer to oversee the entire Human Resources operation and provide support to the Board of Directors. He is a seasoned human resources executive with comprehensive leadership experience in the areas of talent management, organizational development, performance management, reward and incentive programs, benefits and employee relations.

Walt received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Valparaiso University and his Master of Business Administration degree from DePaul University. He is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and WorldatWork, as well as the National Council of the College of Business Administration at Valparaiso University. MICHELLE BYARDMichelle joined HR Green’s leadership team in late 2009 as Controller. With a diverse background in accounting, tax and finance, Michelle is a strong asset to all our business lines and their clients. Her experience includes public accounting, retail/wholesale, real estate, transportation and telecommunications. Her past employers ranged in size from a few hundred employees to several thousand and were both privately and publicly held. Since joining HR Green, Michelle has integrated the accounting systems and practices of our acquired firms, streamlined our accounting functions, and generated new financial reporting tools. She supports our staff, clients, and business lines with a competent approach that helps us to succeed. Gil Janes  |  PE  |  President  |  Transportation Business Line  | 
Gil Janes

Gil currently serves as leader of the Transportation Group. Gil specializes in reconstruction of urban primary highway corridors.  Gil has demonstrated exemplary skill in developing partnerships with local, state and federal agencies to bring funding, technical resources and other program assistance together to achieve client goals.  He is an excellent communicator with a proven track record for successful management of the public involvement process for major projects. He serves as a Strategic Client Manager for some of the firm’s most valued clients, excelling at client service and satisfying client needs. He has also been project manager or principal-in-charge for a wide variety of civil/transportation projects, including land use studies, corridor studies, functional design studies, stormwater management and design, site development, utility systems planning and design, and Brownfields Assessment programs.

=  Dave is the leader of the Water Business Line which provides complete Water, Wastewater and Water Resources services to public- and private-sector clients. In a career that has been focused on providing these critical services, Dave has been involved with planning, design and construction of related projects in numerous states and various regulatory regions. Dave has long been active in various Member Associations (MAs) to the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and is currently serving as a Delegate to WEF from the Central States Water Environment Federation (a MA that represents the states of MN, WI, and IL).

With over 30 years of experience, Dave provides guidance and technical expertise to help his team understand the unique goals and needs for each client. He takes pride in his team and the projects they deliver to effectively and efficiently meet each client’s needs. Dave believes in delivering sustainable solutions to communities and industries to help protect the quality and maintain the responsible use of water. This is why he pushes his team to put themselves in their clients’ positions, enabling them to identify and understand different needs and to develop unique and innovative solutions.

=  Rick is the leader of the Governmental Services Business Line, which focuses on the redevelopment of blighted areas within communities, as well as providing alternative delivery of services and projects to state and local government. Rick and his team can also assist with conducting feasibility studies for Public-Private Partnerships (P3), which can provide another method of financing your most critical capital projects.

With a career built upon serving state and local government, Rick provides a unique perspective on solving tough challenges. His responsibilities include facilitating alternative solutions, serving as Principal-In-Charge for certain projects and participating in legislative efforts that can provide broader opportunities for our clients. Rick is also a believer in accountability, which explains his desire for performance contracting. He works with clients to develop an appropriate agreement to allocate risks for delivery, but also allows for both parties to share in the savings.

Steven Heyer Steve gives seasoned leadership to a diverse group of professionals at HR Green. Since joining the firm in 1979, Steve's creative energy has been instrumental in the launch of new business ventures, including the company’s Senior Living initiative. Through this prosperous business venture, HR Green designs, constructs, owns and operates Windsor Manor™ Assisted Living Communities.

Throughout his career, Steve has been involved with a wide array of project types including airports, commercial buildings, correctional facilities, educational facilities, Federal buildings, industrial buildings and structures, libraries, medical facilities, water and wastewater treatment plants, city halls and law enforcement facilities.

Mike provides creative and energetic leadership to HR Green’s Energy business, which develops clean energy generation facilities using methane, wind and solar sources. He also has a strong background in environmental compliance and brownfields redevelopment. A clear communicator, Mike has taught EPA- and OSHA-related courses and has given technical presentations to diverse audiences. He has been extensively involved in public outreach activities related to brownfields redevelopment initiatives. He has authored grant applications that helped secure millions of dollars in federal and state funds for his clients to conduct brownfields redevelopment. With Mike’s leadership, HR Green has helped communities transform numerous blighted properties into shovel-ready sites capable of competing with greenfield sites for development. Mike received the EPA Region VII Partnership Award in recognition of his voluntary efforts to promote all aspects of brownfields redevelopment in Iowa.
